The "European Transport Research and Innovation Week" (ETRIW) will be a Pan-European action concentrating main transport research activities. It will create the meeting opportunity for the key EU transport research associations, Networks of Excellence, Technology Platforms in transport and the EU representatives.Though the idea follows the French project "EU French Presidency Event – Sustainable Transport & Mobility Research and Climate Change Challenge", held in Lyon, 8 - 12 December 2008.
The basic aim is to support in the framework of the Czech EU Presidency the extension of the European transport research area across the whole Europe, particularly with the non-EU countries. During the European Transport Research and Innovation Week meetings of several European transport research associations and signatories of the Lyon Declaration will be organised.
The meeting of ERTRAC (European Road Transport Research Advisory Council) member states representatives will discuss efficient links between European and national technology platforms.
FP7 Transport Programme Committee Meeting will held its meeting in the framework of the ETRIW, which will underline its link to the EU Presidency.
The central event of the European Transport Research and Innovation Week will be the conference URBAN MOBILITY in the light of the Lisbon Strategy, held on Wednesday 13 May.
This conference will aim to present the EC Urban Mobility Action Plan both to the European transport research community and to the policy and decision - makers representing particularly the Central European regions and cities (AT, CZ, DE, PL, SK). The Conference will target the main issues and problems of urban mobility from the research and users point of view. The Conference outcomes will be transfered on to the Brno Declaration on New European Principles in Urban Mobility is under the discussion.
Networking of European Research Cooperation will be encouraged in the afternoon programme by discussions on the EU research policy agenda and by presentation of European transport research associations.
The European Transport Research and Innovation Week will also show the latest innovative technology presented by the Czech manufacturers and technology centres. The Czech industry has been one of the world greatest manufacturers of electric powered vehicles (trams, trolleybuses) since the 1960s and kept this position even after the period of economic and political changes.
